Aspen Preservation Company
Chris Thompson, owner, has over thirty years in the field of construction. His early career was spent building and remodeling custom homes in New Jersey. While learning his trade he gravitated towards historic homes and woodwork. Central New Jersey held a wealth of historic architecture from Colonial homes, Victorian cottages to Shingle Style beach houses from which he could ply his craft.
In 2001 Chris extended his education and enrolled in The Savannah College of Art and Design’s Historic Preservation MFA program. Here he furthered his knowledge in materials conservation, hands on restoration and Preservation Policy. He spent time studying in Southern France and went on to win the Nellie Longsworth National Preservation Fellowship. The award allowed him to spend a Summer in Washington D.C. studying the role of the Federal Government in preservation issues. He spent time with various agencies including: the National Trust for Historic Preservation, The General Services Administration, The National Park Service, The Forest Service and The President’s Advisory council. He went on to form his own restoration company in Savannah, Georgia that he ran successfully for over ten years. He worked on many historic residences, civic buildings and house museums.
Chris eventually felt the need to move West and expand his architectural resume. He went to work for HistoriCorps, a non-profit dedicated to preserving buildings on public lands. Guiding teams of volunteers in remote mountain locations he helped restore for future generations many log cabins, farmsteads, fire towers and a pioneer era fort. Combining his passion for restoring historic architecture and love of the outdoors he settled in the Roaring Fork Valley of Colorado and formed The Aspen Preservation Company. The company specializes in preserving and rehabilitating homes and commercial properties.
